I know baseball. I grew up learning game to be groomed to play in the Majors, but it just didnt pan out for me. My dad was a catcher and an All-State player. My uncle, drafted to play shortstop for the Houston Astros (never made it out of Double A). My brother an All-State short stop also. And I was a division 1 center fielder who was recruited to play at LSU, but decided on a university closer to home (big mistake, should have went to LSU). So me and my family know baseball and they all agree with the following:
Selena Roberts‘ claim that Alex Rodriguez would tip off batters as to what pitch was coming in 100% false. Anyone who ever played baseball at the high school level and higher would know that it is impossible for the short stop to look into the catcher, steal the sign and relay it to the batter. IMPOSSIBLE.
In order for Alex to have seen the pitching signs, he would have to have been standing almost directly next to second base. What was he doing when there was a right-handed hitter at the plate? Was he walking up to the pitcher and asking him “Hey, what are you going to throw?”
Now, if Selena Roberts would have said that A-Rod was telling batters the game plan as to how they are going to pitch to them, then that holds more water. But even then, the pitcher would still need to execute the game plan. So it would have been a complete waste of breath.
Look, I could go on and on about that book (A-Rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez) and tell you why Selena Roberts is full of shit. Her claim of A-Rod taking steroids in high school because he bulked up 25 pounds sounds stupid considering thats when young men grow. What she fails to tell you is what Doug Menkevich (former MLB player and A-Rod high school teammate) has said, “A-Rod also grew 4 inches in height.”
Bottom line, dont support this chick by buying her book. Its full of lies.
